Strand, UBI expand agreement

BANGALORE: Strand Genomics, a bioinformatics firm here and UBI Canada, a distributor of bioinformatics software have expanded their deal to include another Strand product, avadis, a Strand release said. In November last, UBI agreed to distribute Acuris, a software tool "to automate gene and protein annotation and literature curation." Now, UBI will also distribute avadis, a data mining and microarray gene expression data analysis software, the release said. The tool combined scalable analytical algorithms with powerful and interactive visualization. It could seamlessly import data from various sources, via various `wizards,' the release said.

Lindsay Moir, UBI's President said, "avadis improves the efficiency of data analysis many-fold." Scientists could go from raw data to specific information in a short time, Ms. Moir said. This was so because "the core engines of avadis are highly scalable, configurable and robust," said Vijay Chandru, Strand's chief executive officer.
