PATNA, MAY 26. The Rashtriya Janata Dal retained the Siwan seat while it wrested the Bettiah from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Md Shahabuddin, lodged in a jail in connection with criminal cases, won the Siwan seat for the fourth consecutive term by defeating his nearest rival Om Prakash Yadav of JD (U) by a margin of over one lakh votes. Raghunath Jha, who had returned to the RJD abandoning the JD (U), won the Bettiah seat and defeated his arch rival, Madan Prasad Jaiswal of the BJP. UNI
