Madurai in semifinals

PUDUKOTTAI, MAY 26. Defending champion Madurai entered the boys' semifinals of the Tamil Nadu State Youth (Under-16) basketball championship, conducted jointly by J.J. College of Arts and Science and Pudukottai District Basketball Association, crushing Tiruchi 57-15 at J.J. College Courts here on Wednesday.

The defending champion Salem also entered the girls' semifinals outplaying Coimbatore 57-13.

The results: Boys (quarterfinals): Madurai 57 (Anand 14, Prasanna 8) bt Tiruchi 15 (Sri Ram 8). Pre-quarterfinals: Chennai bt Pudukottai 41-13; Erode bt Villupuram 41-13; Tiruchi bt Thanjavur 59-35; Coimbatore bt Thiruvannamali 39-14; Dindigul bt Cuddalore 45-28; Salem bt Kachipuram 20-10.

Girls (quarterfinals): Salem 57 (Hemalatha 15, Diana 10) bt Coimbatore 13 (Sarana Priya 10).

Pre-quarterfinals: Dindigul bt Cuddalore 38-31; Thiruvannamali bt Villupuram 29-6; Coimbatore bt Tiruchi 28-22.— Our Correspondent
