MADURAI, MAY 26. The Director-General of Police has sought a fresh report on the alleged clash between Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) cadres and fans of film actor Rajnikant here on April 2. Following a petition by the PMK president, G.K. Mani, that the ruling All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam workers had "organised" the clash, the DGP has specifically asked for the role of AIADMK cadres in the incident. "Going by the facts and circumstances that led to the clash, we have made it clear that the AIADMK functionaries had no role to play in the episode. The process of investigation is on and the question of withdrawing the case does not arise," a top police official told The Hindu today. The clash occurred when a handful of Rajnikant fans staged a black-flag demonstration at Nelpettai here when the PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, was proceeding to a public meeting in a convoy of vehicles. It was alleged that some private security personnel (of Dr. Ramadoss) assaulted the agitators with "deadly weapons". Four persons, including the Rajnikant Advocates' Association (southern districts) president, K. Manavalan, sustained injuries and were admitted to hospitals. The city police registered cases against both parties, including an attempt to murder case against Dr. Ramadoss and 25 PMK functionaries. The injured fans sent telegrams to the Election Commission seeking its intervention.
