Energy audit for select Karur textile units

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, MAY 26 . Select home textile units in Karur will be guided on steps to be taken by them for water and energy conservation through an energy audit programme to be organised by the Textiles Committee.

Officials in the Committee in Karur said that the energy audit programme would be held for six small and medium scale units in Karur that were also involved in textile processing or weaving under its cluster development programme.

Experts from the Netherlands Management Co-operation Programme would work with individual units and guide them on measures to be taken for energy conservation.

It would commence on June 3 and the unit-wise activities go on for 15 days.

The level of energy utilisation, including electrical and thermal energy, in these units would be studied and the experts would help in energy conservation.

The units would implement the suggestions. Subsequently, a dissemination programme would be organised so that the participating units could share their experience with other home textile units in the area.

This would help reduce the energy cost incurred by the units. Auditing would be continued depending on the requirements of the participating units, officials said.

Further, officials said that a business information centre was recently opened at the Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters' Association premises for around 120 home textile exporters who were its members.

This centre, which was similar to the one opened for the knitwear exporters in Tirupur, would provide various trade-related information to the exporters and also help create a databank on the profile of the exporters.

This would assist the small and medium-scale units tap the potential in the international market and also utilise the facilities available with other units.
