Shubha flies past Richa's National record

BANGALORE, MAY 26. It was a back-to-back title triumph for BAC as it swept the overall honours in both the sub-junior and junior sections of the State aquatic championship which concluded at the PMSC pool here today. BAC claimed the junior championship with an imposing 1109 points and the sub-junior title with 463 points.

The final day's action saw some pleasing performances. Shubha Chittaranjan, undoubtedly one of the best prospects for the country in the butterfly event after Richa Misra, bettered her peer's National record in the 100m butterfly, clocking 1:07.49. Richa's National mark set in 1996 stood at 1:08.85 and Shubha also erased the State mark of 1:08.11 established by Meghna Narayan in 1995.

Shubha emerged as the individual champion in the girls' Group I section. The other individual champions were: Boys: Group I: Rohit R. Hawaldar (BAC); Group II: N.A. Sandeep (BAC); Group III: Aaron D'Souza (BAC); Group IV: S. Abhinav (PMSC).

Girls: Group I: Shubha Chittaranjan (MSC); Group II: M. Kshipra (BAC); Group III: Madhuri Giri and Madhavi Giri; Group IV: Vaibhavi (KCR).

The highlight of the sub-junior section was a commanding display by young Abhinav, who claimed six golds in as many events in Group IV.
