Miandad keen to coach at NCA

LAHORE, MAY 26 Pakistan coach Javed Miandad has given the PCB a pat on the back for setting up regional academies, especially the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and evinced an interest in coaching there if the Board asks him to.

``The setting up of these academies specially the NCA in Lahore is one of the most positive steps taken by the Board. But to make maximum use of them it is necessary that the Board has a coaching syllabus for all the academies,'' he said.

``I am under contract to the Board, if it wants me to do some work at the NCA during the time the Pakistan team has no international commitments, I would be happy to spend some time there with the young players,'' he added.

Miandad was of the view that ``our future depends on these youngsters which is why it is so important to ensure they get the best coaching and training at these academies.''

The PCB regional academies start functioning from June 2 in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Muridke, while the NCA will function in Lahore.

The former skipper, however, noted that the different set of coaches for the regional academies could hamper building a strong reserve of young players for the senior side bench, as there would be a lack of uniformity.

``If the selected coaches have different coaching methods than there is a problem. Because there will be no uniformity in what the youngsters are learning at these academies. The Board needs to ensure that the coaches follow the same syllabus and training methods at all these academies,'' he told The News.

Speaking about the coming Asia Cup tournament in Sri Lanka in July, Miandad said he was looking forward to meeting with the Board officials and captain Inzamam-ul Haq to start chalking out plans for the next international assignments.— UNI
