COIMBATORE, MAY 26 . A team of highways officials from Chennai conducted a preliminary survey today, for the construction of an approach road to the software park being planned near the Coimbatore Medical College on Avanashi Road, near Peelamedu. A Government official said that the team would present a report that would be discussed in detail by the district administration, after which construction work would commence. Officials are keen on studying all aspects of the matter, so that the approach road would facilitate smooth movement of vehicles away from the city towards the Peelamedu Airport, and also in the opposite direction towards the urban centre. Construction engineers are also taking into account the location of the railway tracks near the area. Planners will obtain technical advice from railway engineers, so that the construction work can proceed smoothly. The software park, expected to come up on a prime location near the airport, is expected to boost the economy of Coimbatore that already has a firm foundation in the information technology sector and the information technology enabled services (ITES) sector. A detailed survey conducted by Price WaterhouseCoopers has found that all the factors necessary for establishing the software park were present in Coimbatore. A large number of students passing out of engineering colleges in the city and nearby towns are likely to find employment in the software park, to be constructed on the lines of Tidel Park in Chennai.
