Merugu student proves his mettle

Efforts of the A.P. Study Circle for Backward Classes through programmes like Merugu have borne fruit with Tata Kantirana, one of its students getting the 211st rank this year and being selected for the Indian Administrative Services.

The study circle has been conducting special coaching classes for underprivileged degree students appearing for various competitive exams during summer, Dasara and Sankranthi vacations.

A common entrance test is conducted for backward classes students from Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts and 400 of them are selected to undergo special coaching with all study material provided free of cost. Hostel facility with free boarding makes the Merugu scheme more attractive, the Study Circle Director, Angala Kuditi Nagaveerabhadrachari, says.

Currently a fresh batch of students is undergoing coaching for the Civil Services, Group-I and II, Bank POs, D.S.C, and RRB at the Centre from May 18. The study circle conducts 40-day coaching camps for EAMCET, GATE, ICET, LAWCET and EdCET.

The study circle also conducts career counselling by explaining about job opportunities for the BCs in various fields, said Mr. Bhadrachari.

The district Collector, K. Ramakrishna Rao, the Joint Collector, B. Venkatesam, and the Executive Director of SC Corporation addressed the students as part of the programme over the last week. The District Employment Officer, Shareena Begum, the District Revenue Officer, D. Rama Rao, and the former Squadron Leader in the defence forces, Jaisimha, from Bangalore will also address the students.

Quiz competitions, yoga classes for wholesome physical and mental health upkeep are also conducted, and to help students identify their latent talents that could provide them the edge in some of the jobs they are prompted to display their special skills like mimicry, singing etc.
