Thanjavur students bag honours

THANJAVUR, MAY 27. Students of Thanjavur have brought laurels to their schools by winning the state ranks in the SSLC public examinations.

While G. Gayathri of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School (HSS) came first in the State by scoring 495 out of 500 marks, two others — Ezhil Sivam of Kalyanasundaram HSS and V.Arthi of Venkateswara Matriculation School — came first in the State in the subjects of Tamil and Hindi respectively.

In all, Thanjavur district recorded 78 per cent pass in the SSLC examinations as against the State average of 77.4 per cent, according to M. Palaniswamy, Chief Educational Officer. Out of 25,015 students, who wrote the SSLC examinations in this district, 19412 emerged successful.

Ezhil Sivam of Kalyanasundaram HSS came second in the district by scoring 491 marks. A. C. Giridha Ranjani of Lauerl HSS at Pallikondan near Pattukottai came third in the district with 490 marks.

In Matriculation examinations, P. Nikhila of J. C. Kumarappa Matriculation HSS at Peravurani came first by scoring 1046 out of 1100 marks.

V. Arthi of Venkateswara Matriculation HSS came second with 1040 marks and V.Lalitha of ARR Matriculation HSS at Kumbakonam came third with 1036 marks. According to the CEO, there are 63 Matriculation schools in the district and the pass per centage was 89 per cent.

Tiruvarur

In Tiruvarur district, C. Sukanya of GRM Girls HSS at Tiruvarur came first in the SSLC examinations with 490 marks.

G. Udhaya Bharathi of the same school came second with 488 marks. P. Srinivasan of Government Higher Secondary School at Poonthottam came third with 486 marks.

According to the Collector, G. Sundaramurthy, the pass per centage was 78 in the district. Out of 12765 students, who wrote the examinations, 9918 emerged successful. Out of 5804 boys, 4198 were successful and out of 6961 girls 5720 emerged victorious.

In the Matriculation examinations, out of 436 students, who wrote the examinations, 383 were successful thereby recording a pass per centage of 88 in the district.

Kasi Miji Rose of St. Antony Matriculation HSS at Thiruthuraipoondi came first in the district with a score of 1025 out of 1100 marks. R. Sinduja of Rahmath Matriculation HSS at Muthupettai came second by scoring 1024 marks. S. Saraswathi of Neelan Matriculation HSS at Needamangalam came third with 1019 marks.

Four schools registered cent per cent pass in the SSLC examinations in the district. They are Government High Schools at Nedumbalam and Bamini, St.Teresa's HSS at Thiruthuraipoondi and Navabharath High School at Mannargudi.

Nagapattinam

Students of Nagapattinam revenue district comprising educational districts of Nagapattinam and Mayiladuturai have achieved 81 per cent pass in the SSLC public examinations, as against the State average of 77 per cent, said G. Arockiasamy, Chief Educational Officer, here today.

Out of 16,494 students, who appeared for the SSLC examinations, 13,325 came out successful. Mr. Arockiasamy said six Government High Schools at Muttam near Nagore, Vettaikaran Iruppu, Kodiakarai, Panchanathikulam, Thanikottagam and Umbalachery in Nagapattinam revenue district had achieved cent per cent pass in the SSLC examination.

There are 51 Government High Schools and 34 Government Higher Secondary Schools in the district. Out of 919 students (from 37 matriculation schools — eight in Nagapattinam educational district and 29 in Mayiladuturai educational district), who appeared for the Matriculation examinations, 827 candidates came out successful bringing the pass percentage to 90.

Toppers

In the SSLC examinations, S. Archana of Sabanayaga Mudaliar Hindu HSS at Sirkazhi secured the first rank by scoring 488 marks.

R. Rajarajeswari of Srinivasa HSS in Melaiyur near Poompur and R. Durgadoss of D.B.T.R. National HSS in Mayiladuturai scored 487 marks and got the second rank. M. Bagatsingh of Government High School, Thanikottagam, secured 486 marks and got the third rank.

In the Matriculation public examination, J. Priyadarsini of Vivekananda Matriculation HSS in Sirkazhi scored 1040 out of 1100 marks and got the first rank.

K. Shobana of Raj Matriculation HSS in Mayiladuturai got the second rank by securing 1037 marks and R. Jeeva of St. Antony's Matriculation HSS in Vedaranyam scored 1035 marks and got the third rank.
