PUDUKOTTAI, MAY 27. Defending champion Madurai and Coimbatore will contest the boys' final while holder Salem and Dindigul clash in the girls' summit clash of the Tamil Nadu State youth (under-16) basketball championship, conducted by JJ College of Engineering and Pudukottai District Basketball Association, here. In the semifinals at the JJ College courts on Thursday, Madurai beat Chennai 55-41 and Coimbatore got past Dindigul 51-48 in a closely-fought match in the boys' section. In the girls' category, Salem easily accounted for Kancheepuram 38-27 while Dindigul had to fight hard before disposing of Chennai 54-51.
Boys: Semifinals: Madurai 55 (Anbukumar 13, Anand 10) bt Chennai 41 (Varun 19); Coimbatore 51 (Ahilan 12) bt Dindigul 48 (Premkumar 11);
Quarterfinals: Dindigul 59 (Madurai Veeran 12, Premkumar 12) bt Tirunelveli 47 (Marimuthu 10, Muthukumar 10); Chennai 58 (Praveen 15) bt Erode 29; Coimbatore 50 bt Salem 34 (Anandakannan 10).
Girls: Semifinals: Salem 38 bt Kancheepuram 27; Dindigul 54 (Guna Mary 14) bt Chennai 51 (Jemmee 18, Muthumari 11); Quarterfinals: Dindigul bt Cuddalore 33-25; Chennai bt Tiruvannamalai 34-29; Kancheepuram bt Madurai 25-17.
