NEW DELHI, MAY 27. The Human Resource Development Minister, Arjun Singh, today denied that he had written to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, regarding the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency probe into the conspiracy behind the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Mr. Singh told The Hindu that he had merely inquired from Dr. Singh about extension of the MDMA. "I have not written to the Prime Minister about this," he said. Expressing surprise at media reports attributing the letter to him, Mr. Singh said that all that he had done was to bring the issue to the Prime Minister's notice. "Every year, Dr. Singh, Pranab Mukherjee and myself used to meet the Home Minister to request him for an extension, I just mentioned this to the Prime Minister. I don't know where all this talk of a letter has arisen," he said. He gave a clean chit to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the Rajiv case. "The DMK issue is a closed chapter. The final report of the Jain Commission has cleared the DMK. It is only after that we went in for an alliance," Mr. Singh said.
