`Help families evicted from forest land'

BANGALORE,
MAY 27.
The former Union Minister, D.K. Taradevi Siddhartha, has urged the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, to instruct the State Government to implement the rehabilitation package for families which were evacuated from forest areas in Chikmagalur district, in accordance with a Supreme Court order.
She told presspersons here today that she had met the Governor and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention in solving the problems of farmers. In compliance with the Supreme Court order, the district authorities had, in three phases, evacuated families from 612 acres of encroached forest land in the Thathkola reserve forest area in Mudigere taluk. Several farmers were left in the lurch as their houses were demolished and their source of livelihood was denied to them, she said.
