TUMKUR, MAY 27. Two persons were killed and three injured in three separate road accidents in Tumkur district on Thursday. Following a public agitation the police arrested a KSRTC bus driver in connection with one of the accidents. In the first accident, Rashid (23) died on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding hit a bridge that is under construction on Tumkur-Kunigal Road at Kuridihalli early on Thursday. Nanjappa, who was riding pillion, suffered grievous injuries. He was taken to Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, for treatment. It is said that Rashid and Nanjappa, residents of Vijayanagar in Bangalore, had come to attend a function at Narayanpura, near here, and were returning to Bangalore when the accident occurred. Some 150 villagers gathered at the bridge and protested against the officials for not completing the work. They said the construction was going on for nearly two years now, and many accidents had occurred on the spot resulting in the death of eight persons. The villagers were angry that neither the area MLA, H. Ningappa of the Janata Dal (Secular), nor any official turned up to hear their grievance. In the second incident, Ramadas, driver of an autoriskshaw, died on the spot when a KSRTC bus hit his vehicle at Kalidasa Circle here. The police arrested the bus driver. In another accident, a police jeep collided with a lorry at Yellapura on the outskirts of Tumkur, injuring the jeep driver and a police official.
