CHANDIGARH, MAY 27 . The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) secretary, Anil Dutta, today urged from the party high command to expel the Deputy Chief Minister, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, from the party for her alleged continued anti-party and anti-Government activities. Mr Dutta, holding Ms Bhattal responsible for the poor performance of the party in the recently- held Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, appealed to party president, Sonia Gandhi, to immediately expel the Deputy Chief Minister from the party and the Cabinet. Talking to newsmen here today, he alleged that Ms Bhattal had negated the anti-corruption drive, launched by the Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, and the achievements and good governance of the State Government. Mr Dutta, accompanied by the Jalandhar Mayor, Surinder Mahey, and the Jalandhar DCC (rural) president, Tejinder Singh Bitta, condemned the dissident activities of Ms Bhattal. The trio were of the opinion that the ``hasty reactions of the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister on the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections had further damaged the party organisation and demoralised the grassroot party workers.'' Mr Dutta claimed that he had apprised Ms Gandhi during election campaign about Ms Bhattal's ``anti-party'' activities in writing. The Congress had won only two of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the State.
