Assistance for relatives of crime victims

CHENNAI, MAY 27. The City Police Commissioner, R. Nataraj, here today distributed financial assistance to more than 100 persons under the Victims' Assistance Fund.

The recipients were relatives of victims of murder and rape and assault. While Rs. 10,000 each was given to the relatives of murder victims, others received Rs. 5,000 each.

Today, 107 persons received Rs. 6.5 lakhs.

Mr. Nataraj handed over to owners about 150 sovereigns jewellery, Rs. 2 lakhs in cash, electronic goods and motorcycles, recovered at Adyar, Mylapore and T. Nagar in the past two months. Special teams, formed to investigate burglary cases, arrested two gangs and recovered the property.

He said more than 200 motorcycles, abandoned in different places, were kept at the Vepery police station. Owners could take custody of their vehicles after producing the documents.
