Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, MAY 27. The sky will remain partly cloudy on Friday. Shower or thundershower is possible is some areas.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.3 degrees Celsius. At Meenambakkam, the corresponding temperatures were 34 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were 65 per cent and 70 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended on May 29 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for maintenance work in parts of Sowcarpet, Velachery, Mathur, Korattur, Gopalapuram, Pantheon Road, Chitlapakkam and Anakaputhur.

Pollution level

The levels of respirable suspended particulate matter (less than 10 microns) was higher than permissible limits in Vallalar Nagar traffic intersections, according to an ambient air quality survey by the Pollution Control Board. The RSPM level was 158 microgram per cubic metre while the permissible limit was 100 units. The survey, carried out between 6 a.m. of May 26 and 27, also detected particulate matter (more than 10 microns) level to be 174 microgram per cubic metre.

Sale deeds

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority will distribute sale deeds to its allottees in Maraimalai Nagar at a function on Saturday. The function will be held at Sri Balaji Kalyanamandapam at 10 a.m.

Counselling programme

A free career counselling programme will be conducted by the National Service Scheme unit of Madras University on June 13 at 9 a.m. for students who failed in examinations. The programme will lay stress on building self-confidence, life orientation, achievement motivation, setting goals, making decisions, improving study skills and providing inter-personal orientation to students. Campaign

Srusthi Hospitals at Thirumalai Nagar, Ramapuram is organising a free bone mineral density check up campaign to detect Osteoporosis on May 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Workshop

A three-day workshop of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India (AMTI) for teachers and students was held at Sarada Secondary School, Gopalapuram. Nine teachers and 11 students from different parts of the state attended.

The workshop deliberated on innovative methods of teaching and testing for teachers and solving of non-routine problems for children through lectures and demonstration sessions.
