MADURAI, MAY 27. A major fire broke out in the Poompuhar showroom of the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation here tonight. According to the police, a thick smoke engulfed the premises shortly after 9 p.m. Fire fighters could not enter the showroom for more than an hour owing to poor visibility. A short circuit was suspected to be the cause of fire. ``The possibility of a sabotage angle is less. The extent of loss is not known immediately,'' the Commissioner of Police, Vijay Kumar, told The Hindu. Consequently, traffic on the busy West Veli Street was disrupted.
