Partly cloudy sky forecast

NEW DELHI MAY 27. The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squall in some areas of the Capital on Friday. The maximum temperature would hover around 37 degree Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Thursday were 36.1 and 23.4 degree Celsius, while Palam recorded a maximum of 36.5 and a minimum of 26.4 degree Celsius respectively.

As for the maximum and minimum humidity, Safdarjung recorded 84 and 57 per cent, while Palam recorded 90 and 59 per cent respectively. Safdarjung recorded 5.8 mm, while Palam recorded 14.8 mm rainfall.

Bomb scare

NEW DELHI MAY 27. A phone call claiming that a bomb would explode in the Visa Section of the Spanish Embassy at Nizamuddin here today forced the police to vacate and search the entire premises. The call turned out to be a hoax.

Around 3-45 p.m., an official of the embassy received a call claiming that a bomb which had been planted in the Visa Section would explode at 6 p.m. Though a caller identification device was attached to the telephone which received the call, it did not display the number. The official immediately informed his superiors who in turn alerted the Delhi police.

Assuming that the call had been made to the Spanish ambassador's residence on Prithvi Raj Road, the bomb disposal and the dog squad went there instead. They were redirected to the Embassy that had already been vacated. After a search of over half-an-hour, the police declared the call a hoax. A hunt has been launched for the caller.

Hoax call

NEW DELHI MAY 27. The Police Control Room (PCR) today received a call claiming that a huge consignment of arms and ammunitions was being transported on board Vaishali Express from New Delhi railway station. However, no such consignment was found during the search, after which the call was declared a hoax.

Around 6-30 p.m., the police received the call, which was traced to a public booth. The entire train was searched but no such consignment was found. The train departed as per schedule, at 7-45 p.m.

Surrenders

NEW DELHI MAY 27. The 55-year-old owner of a Karol Bagh hotel, from where nine Azerbaijani women were arrested this April for their alleged involvement in a prostitution racket, surrendered in a Delhi court today. He was sent to seven-day police custody for interrogation.

The accused, Satbir Singh alias professor, surrendered after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Delhi High Court. The court granted his custody to the police keeping in view the serious nature of allegations.

Satbir Singh's name came up during the investigations into the arrest of Azerbaijani women who were allegedly indulging in flesh trade during their stay at Hotel Regent of Karol Bagh. It is alleged that through this trade, Satbir Singh had amassed huge wealth in the past three years and had also acquired properties at prime locations. A dozen people have already been arrested in the case so far.

Killed

NEW DELHI MAY 27. A 26-year-old labourer with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was killed after a Blueline bus ran over him near Timarpur in North Delhi on Tuesday. The driver has been arrested.

The deceased has been identified as Fakruddin, a native of Bihar. The police said he died on the spot after being hit by the bus. The driver, Udai Raj, has been arrested and a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving registered at Timarpur police station. Further investigations are on.
