Coromandel Institute of Hotel Management ( CIHM ) was established in 1994 with a view to provide high quality education in hotel operations alongside practical operations. It was promoted with the view to provide firm groundings in key managerial areas. CIHM is not only registered with the world- renowned institute of American Hotel & Lodging Association, U.S.A but also a certified learning center of the Punjab Technical University, and offers B. Founded by professionals from hotel industry, This institute is centrally located in the city. It is supported by people from the hospitality industry with hands on experience in some of the finest hotels in India and abroad. The mission of the institute is to mould every student to compete with the future requirements of the industry, with their core values such as academic excellence, discipline and professionalism. CIHM has won many laurels by making its presence felt at all major competitions and events like The Nestle Star Chef competition. It believes in giving the best to the industry, society and its students. According to its director, Mr. Asutosh Ganju, " The rapid growth of the service sector in India is fueling great demand for trained professionals to provide high quality customer service." He further adds that " Hotel Management professionals are much sought after not only by the star and international hotels, luxury cruise liners, travel & tourism industries but also by banks, call centers and retail organisations." According to Mr. Ganju, the hospitality and tourism industry is one among the top three employers worldwide, employing more than the combined strength of agricultural sector, steel, textile, auto and electronics industries. The institute so far has been able to justify the demand by providing 100 % placement. The success is due to the innovative and holistic approach adopted by the institute in training its students. "Learning at CIHM is not a passive process. It involves transformation of ones personality. Students are made to shed their inhibitions, think individually, take initiatives, gain confidence and take up responsibilities. Students are taught to be proactive and deliver results consistently. Determination to excel and make oneself a star performer is injected into the mindset of the students. The students go through a grind in the basics of hospitality business updated with the latest service concepts. "At CIHM we provide training to the students to develop these skills. We provide, industrial training as an integral part of the programme to give the young students a range of varied experience, so that they become familiar with every aspect of hotel operation. We also stress on developing inter personal skills as this is a vital ingredient of the industry," says Ganju. The placement cell at the institute has tie- ups with reputed hotels in India and abroad and helps the students for campus recruitment. The institute arranges special classes on personality development and communication skills also. And all this is available at an affordable fee structure. "The academy produces the best of talent and therefore attract the best of companies who are on need of such talent. A hundred percent placement record has seen students being readily absorbed into the hospitality industry, airlines, cruise liners, PR firms and a host of related corporations and institutions," says he. Catering to the demand the institute has been churning out good many number of students with quality every year and has earned a good reputation in a short period.
