KHARTOUM, MAY 28. The Sudanese Government says the peace accord it signed with southern rebels will contribute to ending the conflict in the western province of Darfur, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced about 1 million people. The Vice-President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, addressed a welcoming crowd of hundreds of thousands of people in Khartoum on Thursday night, after he returned from the signing ceremony in Kenya. ``I would like to assure you that the peace deal we have just signed will give us impetus,'' Mr. Taha said.
