Gopi set for comeback

By Our Sports Reporter

HYDERABAD, MAY 28. Former All England champion, Pullela Gopi Chand, will get back into international circuit after an eight-month lay-off due to an injury by participating in the Canadian Invitation Masters event to be held from June 2.

He said he was feeling much better but not sure how good he would be on his return to competitive circuit. "I am happy with my physical fitness level. Yet, I sincerely believe that the Canadian event would put things in proper perspective as far as the areas where I have to improve are concerned," he explained.

Gopi also said that only eight entries were accepted for the Canadian tournament to be held on league-cum-knock-out basis and features some big names like Peter Gade, Taufik Hidayat and Anderson.

On return, Gopi Chand will personally monitor the conduct of SAAP-Yonex tournaments for different age groups for the second year in a row from June 8 to 13 as part of his endeavour to promote the sport and tap talent. It may be recalled that it was a big success the last time.
