Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MAY 28. The convener of the Pondicherry unit of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI), R. Vanangamudi, said today that the party would launch a protest during the last week of June to condemn the `anti-Dalit' policies of the Rangasamy Government. The party's founder, Thol Thirumavalavan, would lead the protest, he told presspersons here. Mr. Vanangamudi said that there had been a series of atrocities against the downtrodden in various villages in Pondicherry over the last two years. But no action had been taken by the law enforcement authorities to protect the Dalits, he alleged. The funds earmarked under the Special Component Plan in the five years and annual plans for promotion of welfare of the Scheduled Castes had not been used for the purpose they were intended to; there was also diversion of the funds to some other heads.
