Rose surges ahead
VIRGINIA WATER (ENGLAND),
MAY 28.
Justin Rose shot a six-under 66 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead early in the second round of the Volvo PGA Championship.
The 23-year-old Englishman, who led the Masters after two rounds in April, was two ahead of Darren Clarke, who shot 67, and Phillip Price, who birdied the last five holes for a 65.
World No. 2 Vijay Singh only managed a 73 and trailed Rose by six shots.
Price's birdie barrage was a surprise.
The Welshman, remembered for beating Phil Mickelson in singles at the 2002 Ryder Cup, holed from 12 (4 metres), 18 (6 metres) and 15 (5 metres) feet for the first three of his birdies, then chipped close at the par 5s for the last two.
Europe's former No. 1 Colin Montgomerie shot his second straight 70. AP
