COIMBATORE, MAY 28. Defending champion M.R. Sangeetha along with Nabila Farheen, Ishwarya Shobana, P.K. Jayashree, L. Sudharshana and Sujatha shared the lead with 3.5 points apiece at the end of the fourth round of the Tamil Nadu State women's chess championship at the Kumaraguru College of Technology campus here on Friday.

The day belonged to L. Sudharshana of Salem, who upset the calculations of Safira Shanaz of Virudhunagar.

In a queen and opposite colour bishop ending, Sudharshana went two pawns up and won in 81 moves after the latter blundered the ending due to time pressure.

Earlier in the third round, Sudharshana defeated WIM Prathiba of Kancheepuram in 68 moves.

Third round: Saffira Shanaz 2.5 drew Malar Selvi 2.5, Nabila Farheen 3 bt S. Aarthi Sri 2, M. Akila 2 lost to Ishwarya Shobana 3, M.R. Sangeetha 3 bt A. Asha Meera 2, S. Athirai 2.5 drew H. Nilavoli 2.5, S. Sujatha 3 bt Swetha Narayanan 2, Y. Prathiba 1.5 lost to L. Sudharshana 2.5, E.K.A. Akshaya Lakshmi 1.5 lost to P.K. Jayashree 2.5, P. Priya 2 bt S. Sri Nidhi 1.5, Aneegha Tahseen 2 bt J. Saranya.

Fourth round: M.R. Sangeetha 3.5 drew Nabila Farheen 3.5, L. Ishwarya Shobana 3.5 drew S. Sujatha 3.5, L. Sudharshana 3.5 beat Saffira Shanaz 2.5, H. Nilavoli 3 drew P. Malar Selvi 3, P.K. Jayashree 3.5 bt S. Athirai 2.5, Lalitha Raghavendran 2 lost to P. Priya, D. Madhu 2 lost to Aneegha Tahseen 3, S. Aarthi Sri 2.5 drew J. Janani, A. Sumana 2.5 drew M. Akila 2.5, R. Varsha 2.5 drew R. Aarthy Raj 2.5.
