KOLLAM, MAY 28. The Kollam Mayor, Sabita Beegum, in a statement here today said the allegations made by the Deputy Mayor, G. Jayapalan Pillai, against the CPI(M) Kollam area secretary, K. Thankappan, during yesterday's corporation council meeting was totally baseless. Mr. Jayapalan Pillai had said Mr. Thankappan had demanded a commission of Rs. 10 lakhs from a company selected by the civic body to construct a garbage processing plant for the city. The Mayor said such allegations should not have been made against a person who is not a member of the council. She said emergency measures were being initiated to overcome the garbage problem.
