NEW DELHI, MAY 28. As the UPA Government has decided to reconstitute the Task Force on Disaster Management, which managed the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF), the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, today sanctioned drought relief worth Rs. 501 crores to Maharashtra from the fund. The relief would comprise a cash grant of Rs. 201 crores and three-lakh tonnes of wheat valued at Rs. 300 crores. This was announced by the Union Minister for Food and Agriculture, Sharad Pawar, here today. He said that a new committee for NCCF would comprise the Ministers of Finance, Home, and Food and Agriculture. The NCCF is a Central Government fund, contributions to which are made by levy of special surcharge on the central taxes for a limited period with an initial corpus of Rs. 500 crores. The Union Ministers who attended the meeting included the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, the Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, and Mr. Pawar.
