WASHINGTON, MAY 29. California has joined the list of around 35 U.S. States that have introduced bills seeking to ban outsourcing of state government service jobs to low-cost countries like India when state agencies sign new deals with private contractors. The State Senate will now take up the bill that would ban state contract work from going offshore after the Assembly passed it 44-26 on Thursday. The bill aims to address controversial situations such as the use of customer assistance call centres in India and Mexico by a contractor to the state's food stamp programme. The legislation, if passed would require that any work granted under a state contract be performed in California. UNI
