By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, MAY 29 . A wordy duel between residents of Manamedu in Bahoor commune and a group of lorry drivers engaged in lifting river sand led to a clash today, resulting in injuries to at least six persons. The injured have been taken to hospital. It was reported that the Manamedu residents demanded that the lorry drivers employ only the local workers for lifting the sand, and not bring in outside labour. The lorry drivers refused to do so, leading to heated arguments ending up in the clash. Police intervened and restored peace in the area. Peace talks with the representatives of the villagers and lorry owners and drivers were also held.
