YSR calls for quick implementation of Cuddapah action plan

HYDERABAD, MAY 29. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today directed officials to implement a master plan for the overall development of Cuddapah district in five years. Reviewing the proposed master plan presented by the Cuddapah Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, he directed officials to complete the Telugu Ganga project in two years, which would irrigate 80,000 acres of ayacut in the district.

A press release issued by the Chief Minister's office said Dr. Reddy wanted the height of the Gandikota reservoir, which can store about 22 tmc of water under the Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanti, also be increased up to 209 feet. The work should be completed in one year. By increasing the height it is envisaged to provide water to about 80,000 acres. He said the canal construction work should also be taken up at the same time.

Under the Pulivendula branch canal, construction of the Chitravati Balancing Reservoir should be completed by next season, Dr. Reddy stated while agreeing to order a feasibility study to construct a storage reservoir on the Kundu river immediately. Improvements on the system tanks should also be provided immediately. The Cheyyeru Project gate, which was destroyed earlier, should also be replaced immediately.

When officials pointed out that due to flooding costly lands were being eroded in the Pulivendula Assembly constituency and that the flood protection work should also be taken up on the Mogameru Vagu, Dr. Reddy said the beautification of Buggavanka should also be taken up and canals widened.

Dr. Reddy said none of the four comprehensive drinking water schemes in the district was efficient. He agreed to depute experts from Hyderabad to study the schemes threadbare and make them functional. He stated that a comprehensive drinking water scheme should also be taken up in the Lakkireddypalli Assembly constituency.

The Chief Minister directed officials to complete the APUSP programmes under the DFID funding worth Rs. 10 crores to be taken up in Cuddapah and Proddatur. He also favourably responded to an idea of merger of the adjoining gram panchayats of the Cuddapah Municipality and upgrade it into a corporation.

He agreed to constitute a committee which would recommend a suitable revival model for the Proddatur Milk Factory and Cuddapah Sugar Factory which were closed a decade ago. He agreed to set up apparel textile parks at Proddatur, Madhavaram and Jammalamadugu.
