HYDERABAD, MAY 29. The State Government is committed to early election to cooperative bodies, said the Cooperation Minister, Kanna Laxminarayana. The assurance came at a media interaction after he assumed charge of his office at the Secretariat on Saturday. The first file Mr. Laxminarayana signed pertained to a request to the National Agricultural Federation (NAFED) to release its share of money to the State Government for purchase of chillies from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP). The Government had purchased chillies worth Rs. 50 crores through the NAFED last year under an agreement that the latter would repay half of the amount but nothing has been paid so far. The Government has already released Rs. 30 crores to the farmers.
Mr. Laxminarayana left with the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for Delhi in the evening to pursue the case with the NAFED. The Revenue Minister, D. Prasada Rao, who also took office on Saturday, said the Government would examine the demand for expansion of mandals. Another demand for survey of land would also have to be considered from the standpoint of expenditure and time consumption.
Agenda on crucial issues
The Minister for Labour and Employment, G. Vinod, said that the Government was preparing an agenda on crucial issues affecting the working classes and simultaneously chalking out plans to generate more employment.
"I admit I am a first-timer, but I promise that I shall put my management expertise and meet the challenge, with the guidance of my father, G. Venkataswamy, who served as Labour Minister nearly over decades ago," Mr. Vinod said.
