Educationist honoured

NEW DELHI MAY 29. In recognition of her contribution to economic growth and social development, the Director of Ryan International Public Schools, Delhi region, Grace Pinto, was awarded the Shiksha Samman Puraskar on Friday.

Riding high on the 100 per cent result scored by the Class XII and X students in her school, this was another reason for celebration at the Ryan International School this week.

Conferred on her by the All India Business and Community Foundation, the award was given away by the former Chief Election Commissioner G.V.G. Krishnamurthy.

NCC team for Singapore

NEW DELHI MAY 29. A delegation of the NCC's Air and Naval wings left for Singapore today as part of the Youth Exchange Programme. Before leaving, the members of the delegation called on the Director General NCC, Lieutenant-General B.K. Bopanna, who offered them his best wishes and exhorted them to project a good image of the country as young ambassadors.

The Youth Exchange Programme between the NCC organisation of Singapore and India is an annual feature through the support of The International Air/Sea Exchange Programme. In the two-week-long camp, the Indian delegation will be joined by cadets from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Philippines and Singapore, and will be participating in activities ranging from camping, weapons firing, canoeing, to sea competitions and power boat handling. They will also be visiting places of historical, ethnic, and military importance.

School topper

NEW DELHI MAY 29. Sonia Meena of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, R.K.Puram, has topped in Class X by scoring an aggregate of 92.6 per cent. Apart from being the topper of her school, Sonia has also achieved the distinction of being one of the top three performers in Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country and is also the first rank holder in the tribal category. Coming from the small and remote village of Purakhirni in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, Sonia Meena has also scored 99 per cent in science and technology.

Conference inaugurated

NEW DELHI MAY 29. The New Delhi MP, Ajay Maken, inaugurated the 8th Biennial Conference of the Indian Small Scale Paint Association here in the Capital on Friday. The conference will end on May 31. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Maken stated that after agriculture, the small-scale industry was the largest source of employment in the country. He said the paint industry hads a bright future in the country and efforts should be made to make it a substantial competitor in the international market.
