`JD (S) will emerge strong in Kodagu'

By Our Staff Correspondent

MADIKERI, MAY 29. Certain political compulsions had made the Janata Dal (Secular) join hands with the Congress, the former MLA from Madikeri, D.S.Madappa, said here on Saturday.

Mr. Madappa lost the recent Assembly elections to Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate, K.G. Bopaiah, from Madikeri.

Speaking to presspersons here, he said that the fractured verdict could have made way for "imposing" another election on the people, apart from keeping the BJP away from power. The JD (S) leadership had weighed the pros and cons of the situation that had emerged before taking the right decision, he said.

Mr. Madappa and the State secretary of the JD (S), Voterira P.Aiyappa, while thanking the people for extending support to the JD (S), assured them that the party would live up to the promises made in its manifesto.

Now that the JD (S) was part of the Government, it gave the party a great deal of confidence, hope, and advantage.

The JD (S) would respect and accept the verdict of the people of the district, they added.

Mr. Madappa asserted that the coalition Government in the State would last its full term.

The coordination committee of the Government was there to ensure stability, he added.

The JD (S) would emerge more stronger in Kodagu in the future, Mr. Madappa said, adding that emphasis would be laid on strengthening the party at the lower levels, especially keeping in view the coming gram panchayat elections.

The Janata Dal (S) local leaders, K. Purushottam, N. Umesh, Y. Keshavananda and Hameed were present.
