The CMP

Sir, — The common minimum programme of the UPA Government is an amalgamation of the alliance partners' election promises, put together on one paper. Drought in the southern States can be resolved by only interlinking rivers. But no timetable has been spelt out in the CMP for it. The Congress has not indicated anything other than reversal of the NDA's policies in the CMP.

Sir, — The CMP appears to be a common maximum programme — trying to accommodate the maximum demands from all allies.

Sir, — Verdict 2004 was a mandate given to the diverse and polarised forces to come together and work for sustained development. But the CMP does not reflect this resolve. Instead it just counters many of the initiatives taken by the NDA Government.

Sir, — The Government's decision to repeal POTA is unfortunate. The reason cited for doing so is its misuse. Misuse is no excuse to scrap the law. POTA is necessary in the context of growing terrorism.
