Letters to the Editor
Sir, Manmohan Singh has assumed office at a very critical time. The seasoned and upright economist and administrator that he is, Dr. Singh may find holding the UPA constituents together tough. It is said that a successful man is one who lays a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him. It is hoped that Dr. Singh will prove to be a successful man. He will do well to bear in mind Nehru's words: "... We play for high stakes; and if we seek to achieve great things, it can only be through great dangers."
K. Gopakumar Menon,
Sir, People voted for the Congress expecting changes. But we see chargesheeted Ministers, Ministers who are very old and those who did not get the people's mandate in the Cabinet. What difference is there between the NDA and the UPA then?
Silpa Nagari,
Sir, The Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, deserves to be complimented for his statement on the present state of our economy and the satisfactory state of our foreign exchange reserves affording the platform for a further takeoff. This is in contrast to the usual noise made by politicians about the previous government wrecking the economy and leaving the treasury empty.
V. Natarajan,
