KURNOOL, MAY 30. Members at the Zilla Parishad meeting on Sunday urged the Government to provide seven-hour power supply to the agriculture sector at one stretch during day time. MPs-elect -- K. Suryaprakasa Reddy and S.P.Y. Reddy, MLAs-elect -- Gafoor, Sikhamani, Rambhupal Reddy, Shipla Mohan Reddy, Erasu Pratap Reddy, Gangula Pratap Reddy, Kotla Sujathamma, Gouru Charita and Saiprasad Reddy attended the meeting, which was chaired by the Zilla Parishad Chairman, B. Venkatramudu. The Collector, Ajay Jain, the Joint Collector, Mukesh Kumar Meena, and others were present. Raising the subject, Mr. S.P.Y. Reddy said farmers suffered the most on account of erratic power supply. If the supply was during day time the farmer would save on labour cost. The issue was supported by all. Members asked the district administration to take steps to supply seed to farmers. Responding to the clarification by the Joint Director, Agriculture, Venkateswara Sarma, that subsidy was available only for groundnut this season, the members demanded inclusion of more varieties of seed. Also, the members asked the administration to check marketing of spurious seed. The members complained that the MRO at Orvakal was harassing farmers to issue Pattadar passbooks. Many said the situation prevailed in all mandals with the revenue set-up remaining non-cooperative. They urged the Collector to take up immediate steps to simplify the procedure. The in-charge CEO, Guruvaiah, and others were present.
