United States 87 for two

COOPER CITY (FLORIDA), MAY 30. The United States was 87 for two in the second innings chasing 231 to beat Canada after the second day of the three-day cricket match at Brian Piccolo Park.

The United States resumed on Saturday morning at 110 for eight, and Ajiz Ali moved from his overnight 24 to a top score of 36 before Canada captain John Davison snapped up the last two wickets to finish with a career-best eight for 61, and bowl out the home side for 136.

But Canada squandered its 85-run first-innings lead by being bowled out for 145.

It might have been worse but for Sunil Dhaniram, who came to the crease at 63-7 and plundered 65 not out.

The best of the American battery was Zamin Amin, who spun the outstanding figures of 19-7-22-2. He was well supported by Charles Reid, 2-10 off six overs, and Howard Johnson with 2-24 off seven.

The scores: Canada 221 and 145 (Sunil Dhaniram 65 not out) vs United States 136 and 87 for two (Mark Johnson 37 not out). — AP
