Kapachinskaya's loss, Mayr-Krifka's delight

VIENNA: Austrian sprinter Karin Mayr-Krifka said on Sunday she was delighted to pocket her homeland's first sprint medal at the World championships after Russian Anastasiya Kapachinskaya was banned for doping.

Kapachinskaya was suspended for two years and stripped of her 200 metres gold medal from the 2004 Indoor World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, after she tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol.

Mayr-Krifka, who finished a close fourth in the sprint race, was promoted to third. ``It is something special to win my country's first sprint medal at the Worlds,'' she told Austrian state radio. ``Although I would have preferred to be live on the podium, of course.''

The bronze is Austria's fourth at the indoor Worlds, following Klaus Bodenmueller's silver in the 1991 shot put and Stephanie Graf's silver medals in the 800 metres in 2001 and 2003. — AP
