Gilchrist fancies World Cup treble
Sydney: For Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist, the prospect of winning the third World Cup is motivation enough to keep playing till 2007.
The Sydney Morning Herald quoted him as saying, ``no one's won three World Cups, it's as simple as that, and there's four or five of us that have got the possibility of doing that.''
Gilchrist, captain Ricky Ponting, Darren Lehmann and Glenn McGrath played in 1999 and 2003 and have a chance to become the first players in World Cup history to achieve the treble.
Damien Martyn was also a member of the squad in 1999 and 2003.
Gilchrist, however, has not decided whether to go for it.
``I have not sat down with those guys and said, `let's do it' or make a pact or anything. A year ago it wasn't that appealing to me, but now 14 months have disappeared and it's something that's come to mind. Maybe as the time gets closer, and if I do feel like I'm struggling, that might be something that I need as a goal, but at the moment that's not what I've pinned up on the wall and decided I've got to chase. That would be an added bonus,'' he admitted. UNI
