FFW rice seized in vigilance raids
By Our Correspondent
KAKINADA,
MAY 30.
Sleuths of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department raided godowns in the Toorangi area on the town outskirts on Sunday and seized 612 tonnes of rice worth over Rs.60 lakhs meant for the `Food-for-work' programme.
The godowns were hired by a shipping clearing and forwarding agent of Visakhapatnam. This is the second biggest haul of FFW rice in Kakinada within a fortnight.
In the first haul, 1,613 tonnes of rice worth over Rs.1.5 crores was seized in the new port area.
The department has intensified raids following reports of the FFW rice being diverted.
The Superintendent of Police (vigilance), Ramanakumar, while briefing to newsmen about the raids, said no arrests were made in connection with the raids.
