TIRUCHI, MAY 30. Nearly 14,690 candidates from Tamil Nadu and 615 from Pondicherry have registered for counselling to the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). The National Institute of Technology here has 530 seats as its quota, its Director (in-charge) P. Subramanian, said. Talking to presspersons here recently, he said the Central Counselling Board at the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology will organise counselling for admission to undergraduate engineering/ technology, pharmacy and architecture programmes soon after declaration of the AIEEE-2004 results by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Information brochure of the CCB will be sent by post to those who were declared eligible by the CBSE, he said advising candidates to visit the site, `www.ccb.nic.in', to check their eligibility. Counselling will be held in two phases. In the first phase of `off-campus on-line' counselling, from June 26 to July 3, candidates can exercise choices at the place of their convenience. They can contact the nearby participating institutions to avail the Internet facility freely and get information regarding the 35 institutions in the country under the purview of the AIEEE including 17 NITs, disciplines, programmes and categories. They can know their competitive standing for their preferred choices among the logged-in candidates. The name of counselling centre as per state of eligibility will be displayed on computer screen during phase - I. The phase II, `on campus-online' counselling, will be spread over two days. Candidates will be required to report at the specified counselling centre. On the first day, initial deposit of Rs. 5,000 for open category candidates and Rs. 2,000 for SC/ST candidates will be collected. SC candidates with high marks who wished to apply under the Open category will be required to pay an initial deposit of Rs. 5,000. The amount, deposited through a demand draft in favour of the CCB, MNNIT, payable at Allahabad, will be transferred to the allotted institution and adjusted in the fee to be deposited there, he said. Candidates have to bring all certificates in original along with one photocopy of each and four copies of their photograph identical to the one pasted on the application. If the original certificates were in regional language, duly certified English version /translation of such certificates will be required. After verification, the candidates will be required to exercise their final choice of seats online by using Form - I to indicate the choice of institution with branch on order of preference. To be considered for `dropout' seats, they must submit Form - 2 online indicating their choices for institutions only. The choices submitted through Form - 2 will be processed after July 26, 2004, and the list of candidates, who have been allotted an institution against `dropout' seats, will be displayed on web on July 27, 2004 on the basis of all India rank for each category. They will be required to directly report at the allotted institution between July 28 and August 2, 2004 for admission. The allotment against the seats declared vacant as of August 2, 2004 will be made on-line on August 3, 2004 on the basis of choices filled in Form - 2. This allotment will be only for self-financed deemed universities. Further information was available at the web site, `www.nitt.edu', he added.
