MPs told to work for development

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 30 . The Federation of Residents' Associations (FRAT), Thiruvananthapuram, has urged the newly-elected MPs from the State to use their political clout at the Centre to ensure that the development projects for the capital city are carried forward.

In a press release issued here today, the FRAT president, T.A. John, and the general secretary, Punchakary Ravi, said that the political equations at the Centre were conducive for the MPs to exercise their influence for long pending projects like the development of the international airport, the construction of a trans-shipment container terminal at Vizhinjam and the setting up of a High Court Bench in the capital.

While the DMK is making an all out bid to divert the trans-shipment terminal to Kolachel in Tamil Nadu, the Kochi Port Trust is also trying to secure the project, the release pointed out.

It called upon the MPs to ensure that the capital city does not lose institutions like the marine aquarium at Vizhinjam.
