Chakola (Jr.) emerges winner

UDHAGAMANDALAM, MAY 30. Joseph Chakola (Jr.) with 289 gross emerged victorious in the 101st Open amateur golf championship of Southern India organised by the Ootacamund Gymkhana Club at the Lord Wenlock Downs near here on Saturday.

He was followed by David D'Souza (293 gross).

Uma Rao, wife of the Governor of Tamil Nadu P.S. Ramamohan Rao, gave away the prizes.

Other results:

Nett winner: Jehangir (279 nett). Nett runner- up: M. Sarthar (282 nett)-better last round.

Gross best round: David D'Souza (69 gross). Gross best 2nd nine: I.K. Ponnappa (33 gross) - better last three holes. Gross best 1st nine: David D'Souza (33 gross).

Senior Open: Gross winner: V.Rajendran (241 gross). Gross runner-up: N. Mohan Nambiar (258 gross).

Summer golf meet: The Dunlop Shield: Gross winner: Joseph Chakola (Jr.) 150 gross. Gross runner-up: Pavan Kaula-157 gross.

Nett winner: V. Rajendran 140 nett (better second half). Nett runner-up: L. Chinchankar 140 nett.

Outstanding player of the year 2003-2004: N. Sounderrajan.
