Overall title for Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 30. Thiruvananthapuram won the overall title in the State sub-junior and junior aquatic meet which concluded at the Water Works Swimming pool here on Sunday. The host came first in all categories to garner 1621 points while Thrissur was a distant second with 274 points came a distant second. Thiruvananthapuram also completed a double in water polo after getting better of Thrissur in both finals.

A flurry of records enlivened the proceedings on the final day. However, C.Abhilash's effort in 100m backstroke stood out as he erased one of the long standing records from the books. Abilash clocked 1.09.10s which improved upon R.Satheesh Kumar's old mark (1:09.14) set in 1996. Another noteable effort came from Steffi Antony Thomas who became the fastest female swimmer and in the process broke Praveena's five-year-old record (0:30.32). Steffi clocked 0:30.16 for the gold.
