Ratnakaran begins well

KANNUR, MAY 30. Top seed K. Ratnakaran opened his campaign in the P.V. Balakrishnan memorial FIDE rating all-India chess tournament with a convincing win against Anish Das Sharma here on Sunday.

The other higher seeds — Preetham Sharma, B.T. Muralikrishnan, S. Arun Prasad, M.B. Muraleedharan, B.S. Sivanandan and G.N. Gopal — too won their first round games. The tourney, to be played over 10 rounds, concludes on June 5.
