CHENNAI, MAY 30. Ganesh, disciple of his uncle Chitravina maestro Narasimhan and Chitravina N. Ravikiran, finished his record-breaking non-stop recital on Chitravina around 00.30 hours on May 29 in Chennai. The recital commenced at 4 p.m on May 27. Ravikiran himself had played a record-setting non-stop recital for over 24 hours and 45 minutes in 1985, without stirring from his seat. According to Ravikiran, Ganesh not only went past that but his 32.5 hour recital is the longest by any Indian musician. It is also the longest concert by a slide instrumentalist in the world. During the course of the concert, Ganesh presented over 160 compositions as well as improvisation. Several artistes took turns to accompany him for most part but there were moments when he played all by himself.
