COIMBATORE, MAY 30. Software exports are poised to touch Rs. 500-Rs. 800 crores in the next two years, Vivek Harinarain, State Information Technology Secretary, said here yesterday. Speaking at the inauguration of electronic tea auction, he said there was immense potential for IT and in the next four years software exports were expected to touch Rs. 1,000 crores. He said the State government had chosen Coimbatore, next to Chennai, for setting up a Tidel Park. The park would come up on 30 acres of land near the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital within a month. "Wipro will be the anchor company for the park and it has already booked 10 acres of space. Two American companies are setting up shop here." Talking about the overall software exports, he said Tamil Nadu reached the second position, next to Karnataka, registering exports of Rs, 7,000 crores in 2003. Last year, exports from Bangalore was Rs. 12,500 crores.
