DMO allays fears about drug

KOCHI, MAY 30. The propaganda that the anti-filarial drug that is being distributed can cause leptospirosis, bleeding and heart attack, is false, the District Medical Officer has said. In fact, the drug kills the microfilaria that causes filariasis, the DMO clarified.

Reception

The Youth Hostels' Association of India will give a reception to P.S. Vipin Kumar, who climbed the Mount Everest. The function will be held at the Government Youth Hostel, Trikkakkara on May 31. The Ombudsman for Local Self Bodies, K.P. Radhakrishna Menon, will be the chief guest at the function.

Policy hailed

The Kerala State Private Bus Operators' Federation has welcomed the Central Government's policy of ensuring the availability of diesel and petrol at reasonable rates. In a press release here today, the Federation president, M. Khalid Mundapilly, also welcomed the Government's decision to differentiate between the import price and selling price.He said that the price of fuel had increased over a dozen times under the BJP-led Government. This had resulted in oil companies making huge profits, at the cost of gullible customers, he added.

Minister's call

SNDP Yogam branches should be able to formulate action plans based on society's needs, the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, has said. Vocational training is a must, if the benefits of education are to be fully utilised. Mr. Divakaran was speaking after inaugurating the building constructed by the SNDP Charitable Society, Ponekkara, today. The MLA, K. Babu, presided over the function.

Contest

A painting competition was held today at the IMA Hall here in connection with World Anti-Tobacco Day. The event was organised under the auspices of the IMA and the Medical Trust Hospital.
