Thiruvananthapuram
Stop defacing walls Sir, -- Most of the compound walls of Government offices in the city are completely plastered with posters, advertisements and political graffiti. The defaced compound wall of the Accountant General's office in the heart of the city is a case in point. Public premises are not the place for putting up posters of films, advertisements and notices published by sundry political organisations. This amounts to trespassing and stringent action should be taken against those who indulge in this. Even educational institutions in the city are not spared from this anti-social activity. To tackle this problem, certain places in the city could be earmarked for displaying cinema posters. Bal Payyannur, Kesavadasapuram. Improve facilities Sir, -- The improvement in the facilities at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station during the past few months was quite visible to all. This was when O. Rajagopal was the Union Minister of State for Railways. However, recently, some of these facilities at the station were stopped for no reason at all. For instance, the three round tables, and comfortable chairs and sofas in all the three waiting rooms were replaced by uncomfortable iron and plastic chairs. Moreover, those waiting on the main platform have to run for cover when it is raining owing to the leaks in the asbestos roof. Now, that the Railways are observing `Consumer Satisfaction Year', would the divisional railway authorities look into the matter. K.P. Ashok Kumar, Pattom. Examination blues Sir, -- The manner in which the University Of Kerala is conducting examinations highlights its lack of professionalism. This is evident in the way it conducted the first, second and sixth semester B. Tech examinations. Examinations scheduled on May 20 were postponed by the University of Kerala as a mark of respect to the former Chief Minister, E.K. Nayanar, who expired on Wednesday. Many inmates of hostels left for their homes, as it was a weekend. On Friday, it was announced that the postponed examinations would be held on Saturday (May 22). One student learnt about this after he reached Thrissur. And, hardly two hours afters he reached home, he boarded the next train to Thiruvananthapuram. Jimmy Varghese Mathew, Nalanchira.
