HYDERABAD, MAY 31. The Telugu Desam Party and the NDA have learnt it the hard way that people, especially in the rural areas, will not forgive them if they let development take a backseat, according to Jayaprada, newly-elected Member of Parliament from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. She was speaking to presspersons on her first visit to the city after being elected on the Samajwadi Party ticket. She described her victory from the North Indian State as an achievement that could be dedicated to women of Andhra Pradesh. "During my month-and-a-half-long campaign, I saw the reaction of people whose basic needs had been long-neglected by members of the Noor Bano family, who were elected for nine consecutive terms to the Lok Sabha. I was overwhelmed by the love and affection that they showed and the faith and trust they seemed to have reposed in me," Ms. Jayaprada said. The filmstar who parted ways with the TDP recently was initially reluctant to speak about her experience, but later opened up. "All said and done Chandrababu Naidu did prove to be an able leader of the State for nine long years. However, the party was plagued with disenchantment, disappointment and consequent dissent," she said. On her observations on the Parliamentary constituency of Rampur, Ms. Jayaprada said that it was the most backward district where there was no electrical power, no drinking water, no roads, no schools, no hospitals. "It is amazing how people of Rampur could tolerate a leadership which did absolutely nothing to improve thing for over four decade," she regretted. She said that while she was elected from Rampur constituency, it did not mean that she would not focus attention on Andhra Pradesh. "How can I forget my native place? My long-pending project of opening a care home for destitute women will hopefully be cleared by the Congress Government," she said. Among others present at the State Executive meeting of the Samajwadi Party were the president, Jagdeesh Yadav, and the youth wing president, H.T. Sudhakar Rao.
